アル・ゴア元副大統領が、世界で最初の環境長者になったとして、英メディアが「the world’s first “carbon billionaire”」として伝えている。

　英紙デイリーテレグラフによると、ゴア氏の以前の資産を120万ポンド（約1億8000万円）として、それが現在は6000万ポンド（約90億円）になったのだという。ゴア氏はノーベル平和賞を受賞。自身のベンチャーキャピタルが二酸化炭素取引市場、太陽光発電、電気自動車、スマートグリッドなどの分野の企業に出資しているという。

　本人も思っている以上に、英米を中心にニュースとして大きく取り上げられたことに困惑したのか、ゴア氏は「これはビジネスとしてやっているわけではなく、わたしの信念に基づいての行動だ」と反論している。
